One country predominately producing oil can not consume that oil and conversely the country with vast land for agriculture can never utilize the lands potential without gas for its machinery. Trade then is a natural process creating synergy. The whole becomes greater than its individual parts. A reality then exists that the U.S. economy cannot enjoy a high standard of living by maintaining a self-sufficient position. Our economy will not expand if it does not encourage expansion through import and exports, as well as opportunities to open up to foreign investors. The challenge is to maintain a balance between imports and exports. Any country closing itself out to the opportunities in trade will disable their economy by prohibiting its ability to expand. This is especially true here in the U.S. One prime example of a traded commodity that bears great impact on our economy is oil. It is a vitally important part of any economy and is necessary for providing for a high standard of living. Oil serves an important purpose in the U.S. We must have oil in order to keep the millions of cars within the U.S. running. Oil is used for everything from planes to ships, which are essential for intrastate and international trade. Oil is necessary for this complex network of transportation to exist, for crops to be harvested and lights to stay on. In order for people to maintain the high standard of living that we enjoy in our western society, people must have access to an adequate amount of oil in the market. It takes a relatively small amount of uncontrolled supply to disrupt the market (Blair 27). By exporting some oil and importing oil, our countrys prices of oil stabilize, enabling us to make the best use of this market. Slang and shortened words are too casual and vague to others Hashtag: #RuinAFriendShipin5Words Social Media Words and Phrases in the Academic World Slang and Shortened Words are Too Casual and Vague to Others Slang words like ââ¬Å"copsâ⬠and ââ¬Å"pigsâ⬠, phrases similar to ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s coolâ⬠, and shortened words such as texting terms (ââ¬Å"r uâ⬠, ââ¬Å"2moroâ⬠, etc.) are never tolerated in the academic sphere. One good reason is that readers of academic papers are not limited to natives, but include individuals from different ethnic groups who do not understand English slang words. Another is the fact that slang words are too informal for scholarly works that are mostly intended for a critical and educated audience. Shortened words, on the other hand, are usually texting terms that are rarely used in the academic sphere and may be misinterpreted by some readers. Identifying somebody from Asia using the phrase ââ¬Å"that Oriental manâ⬠is offensive and humiliating to that particular person. Similarly, calling or labeling a black person ââ¬Å"Niggerâ⬠is a mockery of his ethnicity. Moreover, they signify racial discrimination, a humanitarian issue that the academic world strongly opposed. People commonly use the word ââ¬Å"retardâ⬠as a more sarcastic substitute for the word ââ¬Å"stupidâ⬠. ââ¬Å"Retardâ⬠is, in reality, a hate speech and oral transgression generally aimed to make somebody with mental and developmental disabilities feel bad. The word ââ¬Å"retardâ⬠according to one study is scary and hurtful to those with intellectual problems. The affected individual often feels bitterness and often becomes aloof and socially isolated. Derogatory, Discriminatory, and Rude Words Offend People Insulting and discriminatory words hurt peopleââ¬â¢s feelings and dignity as human beings and therefore unacceptable in the academic world. The word ââ¬Å"toiletâ⬠may be all right for other people, but it is insulting to an older generation. Similarly, words such as ââ¬Å"wussâ⬠or a weakling, ââ¬Å"derpâ⬠or foolish and popular phrases like ââ¬Å"Thatââ¬â¢s so gayâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t be a girlâ⬠have a huge emotional impact on people. A college in the United Kingdom banned the words ââ¬Å"historyâ⬠, ââ¬Å"ladyâ⬠, ââ¬Å"madâ⬠, ââ¬Å"crazyâ⬠, and ââ¬Å"slavingâ⬠because they are offensive to different people. These insulting words according to this institution offend women, ethnic groups, homosexuals, and upset those with mental illness. The phrase ââ¬Å"taking the Mickeyâ⬠is considered Anti-Irish and therefore racially offensive. The phrase ââ¬Å"Go to hellâ⬠that most people frequently hear on TV is cruel and severely degrade someoneââ¬â¢s dignity. Similarly, swear or rude words like ââ¬Å"damnâ⬠, ââ¬Å"scumbagâ⬠, ââ¬Å"crippleâ⬠, and other dirty or obscene language hurts peopleââ¬â¢s feelings and dignity. These foul languages are somewhat comparable to Twitter users phrases that are offensive enough to #RuinAFriendShipin5Words such as ââ¬Å"Dude, your sister is hotâ⬠, ââ¬Å"I donââ¬â¢t like infected mushroomsâ⬠, or ââ¬Å"Wow your baby is dumbâ⬠Ethics is the main reason for restricting these offensive and derogatory words. The academic world is against any form of marginalization, bias, narrow-mindedness, and stereotyping. The other reason is practical. For example, the meaning of incomplete words is often difficult to comprehend and therefore likely to be misunderstood and interpreted differently by readers. Words that are not inclusive can personally affect some readers while others, thinking that such words are inapplicable to their circumstances, disregard them at once.

Multiple Causes Downed The Challenger Essay The United States has always been proud of its space exploration endeavors.à NASAââ¬â¢s programs have always led the world in technology and performance.à All was going well for the space shuttle program until January of 1986 when the Challenger exploded 73 seconds into the flight, killing all the crew.à Since then, the shuttle program has been besieged by controversy, much of it stemming over the causes of the Challenger explosion.à Basically, reports and research now indicates that the explosion was caused by a deadly combination of mechanical failure and human miscalculation and poor decision-making. à à à à à à The Challenger liftoff was plagued with problems long before it actually was launched.à Delays in both scheduling and weather forecasts forced back the liftoff for a week.à During the last day of delays, a small closing fixture was malfunction, so it was replaced.à Additionally, a module which detects fire was found to be malfunctioning; the crew fixed it as well before the shuttle finally lifted off into space, and then exploded. Officially, the investigative report pointed to a faulty ââ¬Å"O-ringâ⬠seal in the solid-fuel rocket as the cause of the crash.à This faulty seal combined with the very cold weather to allow hot gas to leak into the hole.à Rocket flames were then able to penetrate the fuel tank and catch fire causing the booster rocket to break off of the shuttle and pierce the fuel tank. The liquid hydrogen and oxygen then ignited, causing the Challenger to explode. However, this mechanical failure does not deserve all of the blame.à Several human factors were uncovered in this tragedy.à For years, NASAââ¬â¢s programs had, like many other agencies, been forced to cut manpower and money from its programs. Fewer men and less money meant more work for those that did remain with fewer resources.à Clearly, there was too much work and not enough manpower, resources, parts, or money to meet all of the objectives. Yet, despite these conditions, some engineers did warn NASA officials about the fateful launch.à Many engineers voiced concerns about the extremely cold temperatures and the possibility that the equipment could fail.à Apparently, two NASA officials were told of these concerns well before the flight but did nothing. à It seemed that the entire attitude of NASA had suffered a bit of egoism. à The men who knew the truth were asked to remain silent to preserve NASAââ¬â¢s reputation. à à à à à à à à à à à It is rare that one cause can be attributed to a disaster as horrible as the Challenger explosion.à Here, investigators did find a mechanical failure, but soon learned that this failure had been detected.à Instead, the decision-makers chose to ignore the advice of engineers in an effort to preserve the already late launch date.à Sadly, the entire tragedy had to be revisited with the 2003 explosion of the shuttle Columbia.à Hopefully, the lessons learned can be applied to future decisions in the NASA shuttle program.

Deciding about a strategy for transforming the initial concept into reality followed by production, distribution and finally exhibition all present economic puzzles that are worthy of investigation. However, with global annual spending on movies by the consumers exceeding one trillion dollars, it is worth aspects related to the economic analysis of the motion picture industry (Vogel, 2007, Pp. xix ââ¬â xx).
